Barb and Ken Wardius are life-long Wisconsin residents. Lighthouse history and photography are their passion. Their books include: Wisconsin Lighthouses; Cana Island Lighthouse; Wind Point Lighthouse, and North Point Milwaukee Lighthouse. They are sought after lighthouse lecturers, lead lighthouse tours, and belong to organizations dedicated to lighthouse preservation.

One Room Schoolhouses, presented by Susan Apps-Bodilly of the Wisconsin Historical Society

Susan Apps-Bodilly will take a look back at a bygone era of one room schoolhouses. Susan worked as an elementary and middle school teacher for more than twenty years and recently retired from teaching second-grade students. Copies of her book will be available for purchase at the program. All ages are encouraged to attend.

Come celebrate Arbor Day and give thanks for our predecessors' foresight as they planted our wonderful old-growth trees! Eddee Daniel will speak about the Urban Wilderness Project, focusing on bringing nature into a city environment. Eddee is an artist, writer, and former teacher. He writes for "The Natural Realm" blog for Preserve Our Parks. Hear updates from the Cudahy City Forester, Sheridan Park Friends, and Friends of Pulaski Park. The South Shore Poets will also offer a poetry display.

Join park naturalist Howard Aprill as he talks about why he loves bees and how you can too! People have been keeping honeybees for thousands of years. Come discover the history of bees and beekeeping, their remarkable adaptations, and how to tell them apart from their wasps and hornet cousins. Bees are critical pollinators worth billions of dollars. Our modern agricultural system could not function without them. However, in recent years both honeybees and native pollinators have come under threat. Learn why bees are important in our lives and how we can do our part to keep our buzzy friends flying.

Join author Mike O'Connor as he relates the exciting story of those Wisconsin pilots who downed five enemy aircraft in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War, thereby becoming air aces. Using personal reminiscences, combat reports, and squadron records, O'Connor has created a compelling narrative of skilled pilots engaged in deadly air combats in the hopes of achieving "five-down-and-glory." Copies of O'Connor's books will be available for purchase.

AARP volunteers will prepare and send your income taxes free of charge. You must make an appointment in advance. You can schedule an appointment online at www.freetaxhelp.as.me, beginning January 8, 2024, at 9:00 am, or stop by during program hours to make an appointment in person. Please note that all of the appointments at the Cudahy Family Library are taken, but you will be able to see other sites with available appointments at the link above.
